Junior Division

Playoffs - Quarterfinals

 

(#3) Buchbinder & Warren Realty - 17

(#6) Brown’s Jewelers - 6

 

Buchbinder & Warren Realty easily passed its first round playoff test by nearly tripling up on the Brown’s Jewelers, 17-6. Henry Mann had 10 points and Elijah Fingal had 4 points to lead the Realty offense. In their last game of the season, the Jewelers got 4 points from Benjamin Jacobson, while Jakob Berger showed tremendous hustle and added the other 2 points. Buchbinder & Warren Realty will now advance to face #2 seed Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry in next weekend’s semifinals.

 

(#4) January’s Jazz - 28

(#5) Jasper’s Pizza - 9

 

The January’s Jazz played perhaps their best game of the season and surprisingly crushed Jasper’s Pizza by a score of 28-9 to advance to the second round. Ari Smith had 12 points and Adin Fischer had 8 points for the Jazz in the win. For Jasper’s, Diego Velez and Taj Sipp played with their usual tenacity, but it was teammate Jonathan Amaral that scored all 9 points in a losing cause. January’s Jazz moves on to play #1 seed Ginzburg Drillers in next weekend’s semifinals.

 

 

Varsity Division

Playoffs - Quarterfinals

 

(#3) RNL Vending - 34

(#6) YBY Computers - 20

 

RNL Vending coasted through the first round of the playoffs and eliminated YBY Computers with a 34-20 victory. Vending was led by the duo of Zack Duitz and Caleb Siegel, who had 12 and 10 points respectively, to provide nearly two-thirds of the team’s offense. For Computers, Ayelet Aranoff worked hard and managed to stay cool under pressure, while teammates Caleb Marcus and Gabriel Storfer handled all of the scoring, with 14 points and 6 points respectively, in the loss. Next up for RNL Vending is a matchup with #2 seed Invitations Plus in next weekend’s semifinals.

 

(#5) Riverdale YM-YWHA - 27

(#4) Hertz Dental Stars - 26

 

The first upset of the playoffs was also the most exciting game of the weekend, as the Riverdale YM-YWHA won for only the second time this season, edging out the Hertz Dental Stars by a score of 27-26. Fabio Preka made several amazing shots for the Riverdale Y and led the team with 11 points, while Jacob Fadda followed closely behind with 9 points. For the Dental Stars, Christian Batista had a game-high 12 points and Joaquin Rojas-Tineo added 4 points, but it was both players’ strong defensive pressure that helped keep this game close until the very end. The Riverdale YM-YWHA will need to be even better to have any chance in next weekend’s semifinals when they face undefeated #1 seed Councilman Koppell

 

 

Pro Division

Playoffs - Quarterfinals

 

(#4) Advanced Dental Care - 38

(#5) Riverdale YM-YWHA - 33

 

Advanced Dental Care defeated the Riverdale YM-YWHA by a score of 38-33 and advanced to the pro division’s final four. Elisha Rudman had a memorable day and scored a league-high 25 points to lead the Dental Care offense, while Lenny Faiwiszewski contributed 7 points to the winning total. Dekorey Wright scored a team-high 16 points for the Riverdale Y and Akiva Hain continued to shine with the ball in his hands while finishing with 9 points in the loss. Advanced Dental Care will face a steep challenge in the form of #1 seed RiverKingSports.com during next weekend’s semifinal contest.

 

(#3) Skyview Wines & Spirits - 35

(#6) Taller Dental Magic - 23

 

The Skyview Wines & Spirits kept their season alive and eliminated the Taller Dental Magic from title contention with a convincing 35-23 win. For the Wines & Spirits, Zeke Blauner had a game-high 17 points to go along with two crucial defensive blocks, while teammate Valerie Lavar finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Lieman had 10 points and Jonathan Kurlander added 9 points to provide almost all of the scoring for the Magic, while Elan Hirsch also gave a strong effort in the losing cause. The Skyview Wines & Spirits move on to face #2 seed Riverdale Kiwanis in the semifinals next weekend.

 

 

Super Pro Division  *Regular season continues through 4/3*

 

Skyview Supersonics - 33 (4-5)

Skyview Wines & Spirits - 30 (3-5)

 

In the battle of Skyview, it was the Supersonics that narrowly scratched out a win over the Wines & Spirits by a score of 33-30. Aidan O’Brien led the way with 13 points for the Supersonics and his twin brother Conor O’Brien finished with 9 points -- including a game-winning three-pointer -- while Eric Adolphus tallied 4 points and was a defensive spark-plug in the victory. Despite the loss, two players reached double-digits in scoring for the Wines & Spirits, including Ethan Metzger with 12 points and Ian Hollenberg with 10 points. Additionally, Jamie Herszaft added 4 points in the loss.

 

Hudson Parkway Pharmacy - 49 (3-5)

Hertz Dental Stars - 42 (4-4)

 

The balanced super pro division got even tighter after Hudson Parkway Pharmacy defeated the Hertz Dental Stars by a score of 49-42. This result left just a single game separating second place through fifth place in the division standings with one week remaining in the regular season. Pharmacy was on fire right out of the gate and scored 24 points in the first quarter alone. Josh Deutsch led the team with 15 points, Ami Saad finished with 12 points and Dani Davis added 9 points, including a big three-pointer in the second quarter. For the Dental Stars, Avi Chefitz made some great shots and he led all scorers in the game with 16 points, while teammate Yosef Kessler contributed 10 points and Eli Cohen finished with 6 points, including a pair of free throws to keep the game close in the final minutes.

 

*Note: IDT Energy (6-1) had a bye and will return to action next Sunday for week 11 of the super pro division schedule.

 

In addition, the Y also released the results of a pair of make-up games from Super Bowl Sunday, which were held over the past two weeks

Hertz Dental Stars - 32

 

Daniel Jonas had 15 points and Joseph Jonas added 10 points to lead IDT Energy past the Hertz Dental Stars by a score of 40-32. Avi Chefitz had 4 points in a losing cause for the Dental Stars, while Nehru Ajarie recorded 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block.

Skyview Wines & Spirits - 41

Hudson Parkway Pharmacy - 25

 

Gedalia Schorsch finished with 11 points and Dylan Zimmer scored 10 points to help the Wines & Spirits defeat Hudson Parkway Pharmacy by a score of 41-25. Despite being on the wrong end of the final result, Dani Davis had a superb game and led all scorers with 17 points for Pharmacy, while teammate Larry Currier contributed 6 points in the loss.
