Kennedy steals set but not match from number-one seed, Knights’ volleyball playoff run ends with quarterfinal loss

By Jason Eisenberg

May 18, 2011 -- The John F. Kennedy boys’ volleyball team had its work cut out for them  when they stepped onto the court at York College for last Saturday’s quarterfinal playoff match against William C. Bryant. As New York City’s top-seeded team, Bryant went undefeated in league play, did not lose a single set along the way and only two opponents managed to even reach 20 points in a set against them during the season. May 6, 2011 -- The boys’ soccer teams from John F. Kennedy and Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy have engaged in some of the most tense and exciting games of the fall season for several years running, but up to this point, that has been the extent of the sports rivalry between these two local high schools.

However, that officially changed earlier this week, as the JFK Knights and RKA Tigers met in a regular season baseball game for the first time, and what took place on the diamond proved to be more than worth the wait. In fact, from here on out, it will be hard-pressed for any contest to top this one as the game of the spring season. (Read More)

April 7, 2011 -- At first glance, it would appear that the sports of soccer and volleyball do not have much in common. Besides the fact that they both involve a ball and a net, soccer players rely primarily on their feet

Kennedy tunes up for baseball playoffs by pummeling RKA, loss leaves Tigers one win short of postseason spot

By Jason Eisenberg

May 24, 2011 -- Three weeks ago, the Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy baseball team was in the process of losing its fifth straight game, floundering with a 2-7 overall record and any dreams of a playoff berth were clearly on life support. However, as it turned out, RKA was not dead yet.

The Tigers would win four straight -- and five out of six -- to take control of their own playoff destiny heading in to last Sunday’s regular season finale against local rival John F. Kennedy. A victory would give RKA the necessary .500 record and third place finish in the Bronx “A” West Division that automatically books a spot in the city tournament, while on the other hand, a loss would put them back on the bubble. Underdog Kennedy gives Lehman major scare during playoff thriller, Knights’ season ends after stranding nine in heartbreaking 3-2 loss

By Jason Eisenberg

May 31, 2011 -- The John F. Kennedy High School baseball team entered the final week of the 2011 regular season still in contention for a division title and only front-running Lehman was standing in the way. However, the Knights would lose twice to their biggest rival over a span of three days -- by a combined total of 13-1 -- and were forced to settle for the runner-up spot behind them for a second straight year.

As it turned out, though, these two Bronx baseball powers were not quite done with each other just yet. Kennedy and Lehman met for round three... (Read More)

June 21, 2011 -- Over the last three decades, a New York City championship was nothing but an increasingly-distant memory for the John F. Kennedy High School boys’ tennis team. However, that all changed last month, when the Knights capped off a magical 2011 season by taking down Eleanor Roosevelt in the finals of the “B” Division tournament to bring a PSAL title back home to the local Bronx school.
