Playoffs - Semifinals

 

(#2) Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry - 21

(#3) Buchbinder & Warren Realty - 12

 

Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry advanced to the junior division title game by defeating Buchbinder & Warren Realty, 21-12. Avi Tepler had 7 points and Joshua Sidelsky had 6 points to lead the Dentistry offense, while Henry Mann and Jacob Abehsera each scored 5 points for Realty in a losing cause.

 

(#4) January’s Jazz - 23

(#1) Ginzburg Drillers - 17

 

The Ginzburg Drillers chose the worst possible time to lose only their second game of the season. Feeding off the momentum of last week’s big win, January’s Jazz eliminated the top-seeded Drillers and advanced to the finals with a 23-17 upset. Ari Smith, Azi Kram and Jacob Burstein all finished with 6 points for the Jazz, while Adin Fischer added 5 points to round out the scoring. Darion Ahmadizadeh had 9 points and Corey Walcott had 8 points to provide all of the offense for the Drillers in the loss.

(#1) Councilman Koppell - 35

(#5) Riverdale YM-YWHA - 32

 

The Riverdale YM-YWHA put up an admirable fight against an undefeated opponent, but it was not enough to avoid a 35-32 loss to top-seeded Councilman Koppell. As usual, Akiva Hain was the star for Koppell and led all scorers with 20 points, while Josh Hammerman had 7 points, Adin Rothstein had 6 points and Yedidya Salamon added 2 points to round out the scoresheet. For the Riverdale Y, Jacob Fadda had 14 points, Fabio Preka had 9 points, Joshua Lehman tallied 5 points and Jeremy Lopez contributed 4 points. 

 

(#2) Invitations Plus - 28

(#3) RNL Vending - 18

 

Invitations Plus convincingly defeated RNL Vending by a score of 28-18 to set up a final showdown between the top two teams in the division for next week’s title game. Ethan Sidelsky recorded 9 points for Invitations and teammate Josh Morris chipped in with 3 points. Jakob Morrissey singlehandedly tried to keep Vending in the game and scored 15 of his team’s 18 points in the loss, while Zack Duitz added the other 3 points.

Playoffs- Semifinals

 

(#1) RiverKingSports.com - 27

(#4) Advanced Dental Care - 26

 

RiverKingSports.com got an unexpected scare from Advanced Dental Care, but managed to shake off the rust from a bye week and narrowly held on for a 27-26 victory in this tough semifinal battle. Tzvi Cohen led the River/King Sports offense with 11 points, Ben May followed close behind with 8 points and Max Berger chipped in 4 points, while Ethan Jesselson and Ezra Wildes each contributed 2 points to the winning total. Despite being on the losing end, Elisha Rudman was the star of the game and carried almost the entire scoring load for Dental Care with 22 points on the day. In addition, Addison Bent had 2 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in the loss, while teammate Diego Hepner finished with 2 points and 5 rebounds.

 

(#2) Riverdale Kiwanis - 50

(#3) Skyview Wines & Spirits - 48

 

The pro division’s second semifinal more than matched the excitement of the first one, as Riverdale Kiwanis edged out the Skyview Wines & Spirits by the score of 50-48 in an overtime thriller. With the win, Kiwanis set up a showdown between the top two teams in the division for next week’s title game. William Feldman was a scoring machine for Kiwanis and finished with a game-high 30 points, while both Jonathan Katzman and Sean Kessner tallied 6 points in the victory. Zeke Blauner was sensational in a losing effort and scored 26 points on the day to give his team a shot at the win right until the very end. Valerie Lavar and Efriam Herstic also had solid performances in defeat, finishing with 9 points and 4 points, respectively.

Super Pro Division  *Final week of regular season games*

 

Hudson Parkway Pharmacy - 53 (4-5)

Skyview Wines & Spirits - 35 (3-6)

 

Hudson Parkway Pharmacy will head in to the playoffs on a positive note after dominating the Skyview Wines & Spirits by a score of 53-35. Pharmacy’s Joshua Deutsch led all scorers with 17 points in the win, while Ami Saad and Dani Davis each drained a three-pointer and finished with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Davis’ well-rounded effort also included 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. In addition, Kevin Danishefsky contributed to the victory with 2 points. For the Wines & Spirits, Gedalia Schorsch had 8 points and Ethan Metzger followed right behind with 7 points, while Dylan Zimmer and Moise Romano each scored 2 points in the loss. These same two teams will now face-off for the second time this week, in a do-or-die preliminary playoff match, on Thursday evening.

 

Hertz Dental Stars - 44 (5-4)

IDT Energy - 35 (6-2)

 

In a potential championship game preview, the second-place Hertz Dental Stars impressively defeated first-place IDT Energy by a score of 44-35. Energy was led by a game-high 23 points from Daniel Jonas, including 3 three-pointers, Gil Dubin scored 8 points and blocked a shot, while Yaakov Padwa and Benjamin Klein each added 2 points. For the Dental Stars, Avi Chefitz and Yosef Kessler both reached double-digits in the loss, with 14 points and 10 points, while Eli Cohen showed off some spectacular dribbling that resulted in 9 points and Nehru Ajarie added 5 points to go along with 5 rebounds and a blocked shot.

 

*Note: The Skyview Supersonics (4-5) had a bye this week and will return to action when the super pro division semifinals begin next Sunday.
