Week 8 Results and Team Records


Junior Division

January’s Jazz - 11 (4-4)

Ginzburg Drillers - 10 (7-1)

 

January’s Jazz pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season and handed the Ginzburg Drillers their first defeat by the score of 11-10. Azi Kram had 6 points and Jacob Burstein had 4 points to help the Jazz sneak out a narrow victory. For the Drillers, Corey Walcott had 4 points and Mairead Fox gave a strong effort throughout the contest.

 

Buchbinder & Warren Realty - 14 (5-3)

Brown’s Jewelers - 2 (0-8)

 

Buchbinder & Warren Realty was a winner for the second consecutive week, as they posted a dominating 14-2 victory over Brown’s Jewelers. Henry Mann scored 12 points to handle almost all of the offense for Realty, Tani Lewis added the other 2 points, and Elijah Fingal provided strong defensive play. Jordan Storfer scored the only 2 points of the game for the Jewelers, while teammates Kobi Holmgren and Will Reynoso continue to show improvement with each week that goes by.

 

Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry - 28 (6-2)

Jasper’s Pizza - 14 (2-6)

 

Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry moved within one game of first place by doubling up on Jasper’s Pizza, 28-14. Dentistry had an even distribution of scoring, with four different players -- Avi Tepler, David Duitz, Daniel Berger and Isaac Brainson -- all scoring 6 points each. Kira Tepler and Josh Sidelsky each had 2 points to round out the scoring in the win. Jasper’s was led by a game-high 12 points from Jonathan Amaral, while Diego Velez contributed the other 2 points.  

 

 

Varsity Division

RNL Vending - 19 (4-4)

Hertz Dental Starz - 15 (3-5)

 

RNL Vending defeated the Hertz Dental Starz by a score of 19-15, in a crucial battle for third place in the division. For Vending, Caleb Siegel had 10 points and Misha Saad had a strong defensive performance that helped secure the victory. Jasper Saar had 6 points and David Wegsman added 2 points for the Dental Starz in a losing cause.

 

Councilman Koppell - 28 (8-0)

Riverdale YM-YWHA - 23 (1-7)

 

Despite an admirable effort by the Riverdale YM-YWHA, Councilman Koppell’s team was able to maintain its perfect record -- barely -- with a 28-23 victory. Riverdale Y head coach Mike Raven had his team inspired to pull off the upset, as Fabio Preka scored 9 points, Jacob Fadda added 6 points, Danil Liebman provided strong defensive play and Jeremy Lopez led a late fourth quarter run to make the game close. However, Koppell managed to hold on in the end, thanks in large part to the 22 points scored by Akiva Hain. In addition, Adin Rothstein, Nathan Simon and Benjamin Klahr all contributed to the win with two points apiece.

 

Invitations Plus - 27 (7-1)

YBY Computers - 18 (1-7)

 

Invitations Plus visited the win column for the sixth straight week by defeating YBY Computers, 27-18. For Invitations, ZJ Sacks had a strong day, finishing with a game-high 16 points, followed by 6 points from Ezra Shapiro and 4 points from Josh Morris. For Computers, Moshe Wolff led the team with 10 points, Caleb Marcus added 7 points, and Sam Klestzick had a strong showing in the defensive end. 

 

 

Pro Division

Skyview Wines & Spirits - 41 (5-3)

Riverdale YM-YWHA - 28 (2-6)

 

The Skyview Wines & Spirits bounced back from last week’s disappointing upset loss by defeating the Riverdale YM-YWHA, 41-28. Zeke Blauner scored an impressive 20 points for the Wines & Spirits, while teammate Liam Alderman chipped in with 4 points. For the Riverdale Y, Dekorey Wright had 16 points and Justin Ryan had 4 points.

 

RiverKingSports.com - 45 (7-1)

Riverdale Kiwanis - 29 (6-2)

 

RiverKingSports.com reclaimed sole possession of first place in the division by defeating Riverdale Kiwanis, 45-29. With this win, RiverKingSports.com sweeps the season series and is still the only team to have beaten Kiwanis this year. Tzvi Cohen had 12 points to lead the RKS offense, while Noah Nordlicht followed up with 9 points and Ben May continued to do his best Rajon Rondo impression with a game-high 7 assists to go with 5 points. Will Feldman had 22 points to lead all scorers in an impressive losing effort for Kiwanis, Sean Kessner tallied 4 points and Jonathan Katzman demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the contest.

 

Advanced Dental Care - 36 (3-5)

Taller Dental Magic - 34 (1-7)

 

There would be no letdown for Advanced Dental Care following last week’s big upset of the Wines & Spirits, as they put back-to-back wins together by edging out the Taller Dental Magic, 36-34. Elisha Rudman had yet another strong game to lead Dental Care with 22 points, while Lenny Faiwiszewski (4 points) and Diego Figueroa-Hepner (2 points) had noticeably strong all-around games. For the Magic, Josh Lieman led his team with 16 points, Aryeh Berenstein and Natan Ben-Meir both tallied 4 points, and Elan Hirsch continues to show leadership skills and his improved play on the court led to a late run that resulted in 8 points. 

 

 

Super Pro Division

Hertz Dental Starz - 31 (3-2)

Skyview Wines & Spirits - 29 (2-4)

 

The Hertz Dental Starz showed no signs of rust after a bye week and defeated the Skyview Wines & Spirits by a score of 31-29. Eli Friedman and Josh Shaw both recorded 8 points each in the win for the Dental Starz. For the Wines & Spirits, Joshuah Vaughan had 9 points and 4 rebounds, while Ethan Metzger had 6 points and 4 boards.

 

IDT Energy - 47 (4-1)

Skyview Supersonics - 45 (3-4)

 

The super pro division continues to be the most competitive of all the Stanley Lane age groups, with one tight game after another, as IDT Energy scratched out a 47-45 win over the Skyview Supersonics. In a back and forth contest, Energy managed to walk out triumphant thanks to 18 points by Daniel Jonas and 8 points from Ben Klein. Despite the loss, Conor O'Brien put on a fantastic show, tallying 21 points for Skyview to lead all scorers, while teammate Jordan Stanton contributed 2 points and 6 boards on the day.

 

*Note: Hudson Parkway Pharmacy (2-3) had a bye and will return to action next Sunday for week nine of the super pro division schedule.
