The Polar Plunge is a nationwide event to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics. The idea of the event is to (a) sign up, (b) raise a minimum of $100, and (c) show up to the designated beach in your area – each event is held at a certain beach on a certain day – and plunge into the cold water! Crazy, right? It’s really your choice how far you want to plunge as well, whether that be dipping your toe in or swimming around for awhile. Once you jump out of the water, you are greeted with both warm towels and an event sweatshirt!

It’s basically a fun way to raise money for the Special Olympics and participate in a memorable and exciting event with other participants. This year, Manhattan College is working on putting together a team of at least 25 students.  We are participating in the Plunge on Dec. 4th on Staten Island. Since the event benefits Special Olympic athletes, the head of Manhattan College’s Polar Plunge team decided to look to the athletes first.

Three of our Lady Jaspers have already signed up and begun fundraising for this spectacular winter event! Support senior Hilary Valenzuela, junior Stephanie Tsao, and sophomore Brianna Turano as they work their way towards their $100 goal! There are several ways you can donate and support:

(1) Send checks

(2) Purchase a Manhattan Tennis:

- T-shirt (dark green) $12

- Long sleeve (white OR gray) $15

- Sweatshirt (gray) $25

(3) Write letters of support to the girls!

All money and orders are appreciated by Dec. 2nd! Thank you all so much for continuing to read my blog! Stories will become more regular in the spring once our season starts again!
